Signing of the Partnership Agreement between the Ministry of Education and UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development

The Ministry of Education through the ECCE Technical Team for the Sector is currently implementing a project entitled ‘Promoting Social Emotional Learning at Early Childhood, for which assistance to develop an evidenced-based SEL Framework was obtained from UNESCO Mahatma Ghandi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) in July 2023. 

The Ministry of Education hence formalized this cooperation through a Partnership Agreement with UNESCO MGIEP.  The official signing of the Partnership Agreement between UNESCO MGIEP and MoE took place on Tuesday 5th December 2023 at the Ministry’sHeadquarters.

The Agreement was signed by the Director of UNESCO MGIEP, Dr Anantha Duraiappah and the Principal Secretary for Education Services, Ms Merna Eulentin.

In his address, Dr Anantha Duraiappah stated “As a Category 1 of UNESCO, we have just finished our evaluation. We would like to partner with Seychelles to bring this database.

I am very positive that we are going to change the course of Education globally.”

On her side, the Principal Secretary for Education Services expressed, “The signing of this Partnership Agreement will allow the MoE to obtain technical assistance not only with the development of the Social Emotional Learning Framework, but also in the training of teachers, the sensitization of parents and the Community.”

Present at the ceremony were also UNESCO Senior National Program Officer, Dr Nandini Chatterjee; the Senior Educational Psychologist from Student Support Services, Mrs Catriona Monthy; the Chief Counselor, Mrs Desiree Hermitte and other Ministry Officials.
