Strengthening Social Emotional Learning in Seychelles: Launch of the Think Equal Programme

The Ministry of Education & Human Resource Development has officially launched the Think Equal Programme in Seychelles to strengthen Social Emotional Learning (SEL) at the early childhood level. This initiative builds on the National Action Plan for Early Childhood Care & Education (2025–2027) and complements ongoing collaboration with UNESCO Category 1 Centre, MGIEP (the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development). The programme will provide crèche and Primary 1 classrooms with multilingual storybooks, lesson plans, and support resources in Creole, English, and French, ensuring inclusivity and cultural relevance.
The programme adopts a train-the-trainer model, with Master Trainers undergoing intensive training before cascading knowledge to early childhood teachers across schools. It will be rolled out nationally in all state schools from Term 2, 2026, embedding SEL into the education system and supporting children’s holistic development.
Think Equal consultants Ms. Priyanka Devani ,Director of Global Programmes and Ms. Tinotenda Lina Chigeza,Africa Programmes Manager visited Seychelles from 7th –10th April 2026 to prepare for implementation. Their mission included meetings with ministry officials, training sessions for headteachers and master trainers, and culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry and Think Equal. At the close of the training, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their participation and commitment to advancing SEL in schools.
