The Education Day 2025 symposium, themed “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation”, offered a critical exploration of the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and education. Mrs. Daniella Athanase, Principal Education Officer for Educational Technology, presented the Ministry of Education’s Digital Plan, outlining progress achieved since 2021. Key milestones included the introduction of digital tools, the establishment of foundational policies for digital transformation, and targeted capacity-building initiatives. Ongoing efforts were highlighted, including the implementation of coding and robotics clubs in secondary schools and the development of SMART Classrooms. Looking to the future, the Ministry envisions fostering strategic partnerships with institutions such as the University of Seychelles, broadening access to assistive technologies, and promoting inclusive digital learning environments. The symposium underscored the importance of leveraging AI to enhance education while prioritizing human creativity, critical thinking, and autonomy, positioning technology as a facilitator rather than a replacement.
