Seychelles Launches Digital School Initiative to Advance Teacher Skills and Digital Learning Nationwide

The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, in partnership with the UAE’s Digital School Programme, launched the Digital School Initiative on Monday 20th April 2026 with a virtual training session for educators in Seychelles. The event introduced teachers to the Digital Educator Global Academy (DEGA) platform, certified by Arizona State University, marking a major step in advancing digital learning.
The programme was launched by Dr. Justin Zelime, Principal Secretary for General Education and Curriculum, alongside contributions from representatives of The Digital School. Educators were guided through orientation on the DEGA platform, preparing for self-directed learning under the open and distance model.
The initiative targeting Primary 5 and 6 learners in eleven government schools, saw the participation of Glacis, Grand Anse Praslin, Mont Fleuri , Baie Lazare , Cascade , La Rosière, Bel Eau, Anse Boileau , Beau Vallon, Pointe Larue, and Anse Etoile Primary schools. By focusing on these schools, the Ministry aims to test and refine approaches that can later be expanded nationwide.
A central pillar of the programme is teacher professional development through DEGA. Educators complete Level 1 (Orientation), focusing on the Learning Management System, followed by Level 2 (Digital Educator), which covers digital pedagogy, classroom management, blended teaching strategies, and cyber safety. Successful participants earn the title of Digital Educator, recognising their competence in integrating digital tools into teaching.
By equipping teachers with modern skills and confidence, the initiative strengthens digital literacy among students and lays the foundation for a scalable national model of digital education in Seychelles.
