The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development convened the first School Council Chairpersons meeting of the year at the SITE Auditorium on Saturday 21st February 2026. The event opened with welcoming remarks and approval of the agenda, followed by introductions of the Executive Committee, Senior Management Committee, and School Council representatives.
The highlight of the morning was the Minister’s address, where he acknowledged the service and commitment of School Council members and PTA Chairpersons, and outlined five strategic priorities for the next five years: enhancing teaching and learning, strengthening teacher professionalism, addressing student discipline and well-being, consolidating governance, and investing in infrastructure and digital transformation. He spoke candidly about challenges such as absenteeism and anti-social behaviour, stressing the need for positive discipline and stronger parental involvement.
The meeting also featured a presentation of the Ministry’s structure, an open discussion on governance, accountability, parental engagement, behaviour, and teaching, as well as updates on governance matters including allowances, appointment letters, record-keeping, and induction training.
