Minister David Pierre Engages Bel Air Community to Discuss School Discipline, Governance, and Student Welfare

The Minister for Education and Human Resource Development ,Mr David Pierre participated in a public meeting organized by the Bel Air District Administration Office on Saturday 17th January. The session brought together community members, education stakeholders, and local leaders to discuss key issues affecting schools and students in the district.

Among the topics raised to the Minister were the reintroduction of the code of conduct, including hairstyle regulations, aimed at fostering discipline and preparing children for future challenges. The importance of creating a conducive learning environment and strengthening school governance was emphasized, with officials noting that discipline and resilience are essential for long-term success and employability.

Suggestions from participants included reviewing student allocation based on district boundaries, which are not always accurate and can complicate access to schools. Concerns about bullying were acknowledged, with updates shared on the ongoing revision of the code of conduct and curriculum, and the role of school services in providing support.

The issue of retaining secondary school teachers, especially local educators, was also highlighted. Participants called for structural changes to improve school governance and accountability, stressing the need for stronger partnerships between parents, schools, and the Ministry of Education.
