The Minister for Education and Human Resources Development,Mr. David Pierre, welcomed the new Cuban Ambassador to Seychelles, H.E. Mrs. Iraida de la Caridad Guerrero Zuniga at the Ministry’s headquarters on 16th January.
During the courtesy call, Ambassador Guerrero Zuniga highlighted the longstanding friendship between Seychelles and Cuba, noting that the two nations have enjoyed strong bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties on 12 April 1978. She reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation, particularly in areas of education and human resource development.
The Minister highlighted Cuba’s contribution to Seychelles’ education sector, noting that over 250 Seychellois students have benefitted from scholarships since the 1980s, mainly in medicine, with six currently studying in Cuba.
He expressed appreciation for the cooperation in education and proposed exploring new areas of collaboration to further strengthen ties.
