Visit to the International School Seychelles

The Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Ambassador David Pierre and his delegation, accompanied the Minister for Employment and Human Resource Planning, Ms Idith Alexander on a visit to the International School Seychelles (ISS) on 8th May. Minister Pierre’s presence reinforced the ministry’s responsibility to uphold national standards in the provision of quality educational services while his engagement underscored the significance of addressing staff concerns within the broader education sector.
During the meeting with teaching and support staff, several constructive opportunities for growth and collaboration were identified. Staff expressed a strong interest in reviewing salary structures to ensure greater equity between local and expatriate workers. Staff highlighted the importance of expanding training opportunities and ensuring greater national recognition for teachers in private schools. Ambassador Pierre responded with attentive regard to these concerns, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to supporting teachers and staff so they can continue to deliver quality education.
After meeting with staff,both Ministers met with the school’s management and board members to focus on the issues encountered and to evaluate possible strategies for improvement. Ambassador Pierre emphasized that such visits are vital in shaping policies that strengthen the education sector, while ensuring that organizations implement measures consistent with labour laws. He added that open dialogue between employees and employers provides valuable guidance for the ministry in formulating national policies to address employment-related challenges.
