The Minister for Education,Ambassador David Pierre and his Executive team received Mr. Zarau Wendeline Kibwe, World Bank Group Executive Director for Seychelles, and Mr. Bertrand Belle, the World Bank’s Lead Advisor for Small States, during a courtesy cal on 5th May 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and the World Bank, with discussions focusing on advancing Seychelles’ education sector through innovation and capacity building.
Central to the dialogue was the development of smart classrooms in primary and secondary schools, alongside initiatives to enhance digital skills among students and teachers. The World Bank representatives emphasized their commitment to supporting Seychelles in addressing the skills mismatch and tackling foundational learning gaps.
The conversation also highlighted the importance of TVET expansion, investment in Skills and Vocational Training Centres (SVTCs), and the integration of soft skills and artificial intelligence into the national curriculum. Both sides agreed on the need for a comprehensive human resource development plan, supported by re-skilling programs and stakeholder collaboration.
The World Bank underscored the value of contextual understanding in education reform, while the Ministry noted the ongoing APRM baseline review of the education system, which will help identify shortfalls and guide targeted interventions. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen relations between the World Bank and the Ministry, ensuring that future collaboration translates into tangible, impactful projects for Seychelles’ education sector.
