The School Warden Training Programme was officially launched on Tuesday 5th May at the SITE Auditorium, Mont Fleuri. The opening ceremony was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and the Ministry of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, bringing together senior officials, representatives of the Road Safety Committee, partners and school wardens.
In his address, the Minister for Education and Human Resource Developmen,Ambassador David Pierre,emphasized the collective responsibility of ministries, communities, and families in safeguarding children during their daily commute. He underscored the critical role of school wardens, describing them as essential figures at the intersection of education, safety, and community responsibility. The Minister outlined the objectives of the training programme, which included equipping wardens with knowledge of road safety regulations, student supervision, emergency response, traffic management, and the proper use of safety equipment.
The programme combined theoretical instruction with practical simulation exercises to ensure that wardens could apply their skills effectively. The Minister also stressed the importance of community cooperation, urging motorists, parents, and students to respect and support the authority of school wardens. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continuous professional development, monitoring, and public awareness campaigns to sustain the initiative’s impact.
The two-day training covered modules on responsibilities, ethics, legal frameworks, rules of the road, engineering, and emergency procedures. Practical sessions focused on road safety around school premises, duties during bus drop-off and pickup, and simulation exercises to prepare wardens for real-life scenarios.
At the conclusion of the training,certificates were presented to all school wardens, symbolizing both achievement and responsibility. This final gesture reinforced their empowerment to carry out duties with confidence, integrity, and professionalism, while also serving as a public affirmation of their contribution to safer school environments across Seychelles.
