National Character Building Programme

The National Character Building Programme was officially launched on Friday, 15th May at the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Hall, with an Open Day introducing parents, students, and facilitators to its vision of empowering youth through positive values, teamwork, and personal growth. In attendance were the Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Ambassador David Pierre, the Director General for Schools Services Division, Directors, parents and other invited guests.
The event welcoming remarks and reflections from key figures, followed by interactive sessions including ice breakers, games, and teambuilding activities that emphasized cooperation, trust, and communication. Group discussions explored the meaning of “character” and encouraged collaboration between parents and students. Afternoon reflections highlighted themes of love and compassion, forgiveness, and calmness and selfcontrol, reinforcing empathy, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.
The day concluded with final encouragement and the reaffirmation of the programme’s motto: “Rise with purpose, Shine with Character.” The launch set the foundation for the 24 week journey, ensuring a shared commitment among students, parents and educators to build self-awareness, self- discipline, obedience and respect, and role modelling as guiding principles for positive behaviour and responsible citizenship
