The Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education, Start of Term 2023

The Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE), welcomed back its students this morning in an assembly which was held at the SITE Auditorium.

In attendance were: the Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin; Principal Secretary for Education Services, Ms Merna Eulentin; Executive Director for Minister’s Secretariat, Dr Linda Barallon; Director of SITE, Mrs Lucianna Lagrenade; other distinguished guests; Lecturers and Students.

The main highlight of the assembly was the Minister’s address aimed specifically to the students, whereby he asserted to them three key messages:

  1. To build a philosophical statement that could guide them during their journey at the Institution as Teacher Trainees
  2. Be prepared to embrace and engage with classroom realities
  3. To build connections… as teaching is interdependent.

Minister Valentin further stated “If you build together, you will not fail. Prepare yourselves to be inventive, in order to nurture the expectations of the learners under your care.”

The Address was well received by the students. As expressed by an attendee: “It is very important to receive such words of inspiration and encouragement at the beginning of term. It gives us confidence and help us be ready to tackle any difficulty we may encounter along the way. Additionally, this propels us to do our utmost to deliver to the very best of our abilities. We are looking forward to a fruitful year ahead.”
