Support Units
The School Services Division is responsible for providing strategic leadership, coordination, oversight, and quality assurance for the effective delivery of general education across all schools. Its core mandate is to ensure the consistent implementation of the national curriculum, promote high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment practices, and strengthen school performance in accordance with national education policies, standards, and strategic priorities.
The Division works collaboratively with school leaders, educators, and key stakeholders to enhance instructional quality, strengthen school leadership, promote learner achievement and wellbeing, and foster inclusive and equitable learning environments. It also supports the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives through effective monitoring, evidence-based decision-making, and targeted institutional support.
Through its leadership, coordination, and quality assurance functions, the Division contributes to improving system-wide educational performance and ensuring that all schools deliver relevant, inclusive, and high-quality learning experiences aligned with the Ministry’s strategic objectives.
The Early Childhood and Primary School Section is responsible for providing strategic leadership and professional support for the delivery of quality early childhood and primary education. It ensures the effective implementation of the national curriculum and promotes developmentally appropriate, learner-centred, and inclusive teaching and learning practices that establish strong foundations for lifelong learning.
The Section oversees curriculum implementation, monitors school performance, and strengthens quality assurance processes to improve learner outcomes, particularly in foundational literacy, numeracy, values education, and holistic child development. It supports smooth learner progression across educational stages while promoting inclusive education and equitable access to quality learning opportunities for every child.
Working closely with school leadership teams and teachers, the Section provides professional guidance, capacity-building, and targeted support to strengthen instructional practice, enhance school effectiveness, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Through these functions, the Section ensures that early childhood and primary education provide learners with the knowledge, skills, values, and competencies necessary for future educational success and lifelong learning.
The Secondary School and School of Advanced Level Studies (SALS) Section is responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and quality assurance for secondary and advanced-level education. It ensures the effective implementation of the national curriculum and supports learner progression into higher education, technical and vocational education and training, and employment.
The Section leads the implementation of curriculum, teaching, learning, and assessment policies while monitoring school performance, learner achievement, and institutional effectiveness. It works closely with schools to strengthen instructional quality, promote academic excellence, and ensure that assessment systems maintain integrity, credibility, and alignment with national and international standards.
The Section also coordinates professional learning opportunities for educators, supports the administration of national and international examinations, and promotes evidence-based planning through the analysis of learner performance and system data. In addition, it ensures compliance with national policies and quality standards while supporting initiatives that promote learner wellbeing, inclusion, leadership, and holistic development.
Through these functions, the Section contributes to the delivery of high-quality, relevant, and future-oriented secondary education that prepares learners for further education, employment, responsible citizenship, and lifelong learning.
The Library Services Unit is responsible for providing strategic leadership, professional guidance, and quality assurance for school library services across the education system. Its core mandate is to strengthen library programmes that support curriculum delivery, literacy development, independent learning, research, and lifelong learning.
The Unit develops the professional capacity of librarians and assistant librarians through induction programmes, continuous professional development, mentoring, and the promotion of best practices in school librarianship. It also supports the integration of digital technologies and innovative library services to enhance access to information and learning resources.
Through regular monitoring and advisory visits, the Unit works closely with schools to strengthen library management, guide the planning and procurement of library resources, and ensure that collections remain relevant, inclusive, and aligned with curriculum requirements.
Through these functions, the Library Services Unit promotes dynamic, learner-centred library environments that foster reading, inquiry, digital literacy, creativity, and academic achievement across all levels of education.
The Laboratory Services Unit is responsible for providing strategic leadership, coordination, and quality assurance for science laboratory services across schools. Its core mandate is to ensure that laboratory facilities, equipment, and technical support services enable safe, effective, and high-quality practical science teaching, learning, and assessment.
The Unit strengthens the professional capacity of Laboratory Technicians through induction, continuous professional development, and technical support, ensuring compliance with recognised health, safety, and operational standards. It coordinates the planning, procurement, maintenance, and management of laboratory equipment, materials, and chemicals required to support curriculum implementation.
The Unit also collaborates closely with schools, the Examinations and Assessment Section, and recognised national and international examination bodies to ensure that laboratory facilities meet the requirements for practical assessments and examinations. Through regular monitoring and technical support, it promotes efficient laboratory management and the effective utilisation of scientific resources.
Through these functions, the Laboratory Services Unit contributes to the provision of safe, well-equipped, innovative, and standards-compliant laboratory environments that enhance practical science education, scientific inquiry, and learner achievement.
