Organisational Structure

The Educational Technology and Digital Innovation Division comprises two specialised Sections responsible for leading the digital transformation of education and advancing innovation across the education system.

The Division is organised as follows:

  • Educational Technology Section
  • STEM Education Section

Core Mandate

The Educational Technology and Digital Innovation Division is responsible for providing strategic leadership, policy implementation, coordination, and quality assurance for the integration of digital technologies, innovation, and emerging technologies across the education system. Its core mandate is to drive the digital transformation of education by strengthening technology-enabled teaching, learning, assessment, leadership, and institutional management.

The Division leads the development and implementation of policies, frameworks, and standards that promote the effective, ethical, secure, and equitable use of digital technologies in education. It supports the development of digital competencies among educators, school leaders, administrators, and learners while fostering innovation, digital inclusion, and technology-enhanced learning environments across all levels of general education.

The Division also oversees the implementation of national educational technology initiatives, promotes digital infrastructure and resource development, and facilitates research, pilot programmes, and innovation projects that inform evidence-based policy and practice. Working collaboratively with national, regional, and international partners, the Division ensures that the education system remains responsive to technological advancement and emerging global trends.

Through these functions, the Division contributes to building a resilient, inclusive, innovative, and future-ready education system that equips learners with the digital competencies, creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability required to thrive in an increasingly digital and knowledge-based society.

Educational Technology Section

Core Mandate

The Educational Technology Section is responsible for leading the strategic integration of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, to enhance teaching, learning, assessment, educational leadership, and institutional effectiveness across the education system.

The Section develops and implements policies, frameworks, standards, and guidelines that support the ethical, responsible, secure, and effective adoption of educational technologies. It provides strategic advice, technical expertise, and implementation support to schools and educational institutions in creating technology-enabled learning environments aligned with national education priorities and international best practices.

A key responsibility of the Section is strengthening the digital capacity of educators, school leaders, and education officers through professional learning programmes, coaching, mentoring, and capacity-building initiatives focused on digital pedagogy, artificial intelligence, digital citizenship, cybersecurity awareness, and innovative teaching practices.

The Section also coordinates digital innovation initiatives, monitors the impact of educational technologies on teaching and learning, and promotes the development and adoption of digital learning resources, online platforms, and data-informed solutions that improve educational quality and system efficiency.

Through these functions, the Educational Technology Section drives educational innovation and digital transformation, enabling learners and educators to confidently participate in a connected, technology-enabled, and knowledge-driven society.

STEM Education Section

Core Mandate

The STEM Education Section is responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordination for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education across all levels of general education. Its core mandate is to strengthen STEM teaching and learning, promote innovation, and develop the scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical competencies required to support Seychelles’ national development and future workforce needs.

The Section leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of STEM education programmes, ensuring that curricula remain relevant, interdisciplinary, and aligned with emerging technologies, industry requirements, and international standards. It supports educators through specialised professional learning, instructional resources, and pedagogical guidance that enhance subject knowledge and innovative classroom practice.

The Section promotes learner engagement through experiential, inquiry-based, and project-based learning opportunities, including robotics, coding, engineering design, innovation challenges, science fairs, STEM competitions, maker education, and other initiatives that foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Working in partnership with higher education institutions, industry, research organisations, and international partners, the Section strengthens connections between education, research, and the world of work while expanding opportunities for learners to engage in authentic STEM experiences.

Through these functions, the STEM Education Section contributes to developing a scientifically literate, technologically competent, innovative, and future-ready generation equipped to succeed in a rapidly evolving, knowledge-based, and technology-driven economy.
